Stunning Novel Explores What Happens When Modern World Exploits Ancient Wisdom of Traditional Culture
Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia (PRWeb) February 4, 2007 -- In Inez Baranay's provocative novel, Neem Dreams, first published by Rupa & Co in India, four characters find their lives intertwined with the fate of India's mystic and pharmaceutical neem tree. East converges with West as Baranay explores how globalization can endanger a time-honored culture.
An Australian, Indian, British and American all struggle to make the best use of India's medicinal neem tree, but instead encounter corporate greed, environmental disaster and political villainy in Inez Baranay's Neem Dreams. They meet through travel, sex, death, shopping, gaydar, rumor and the sudden affinities of strangers.
Baranay is not Indian but has visited the country nine times, immersing herself in the culture so completely that when Neem Dreams was published in India, the novel received widespread critical acclaim for its pitch-perfect portrayal. Neem Dreams is a dazzling portrait of a complicated country and a thought-provoking look at the price of globalization. "Baranay has risen above her feminine voice and foreigner perspective to strike a neutral unbiased language as far as basic values and issues are concerned. She uncannily conjures splashes of Indian reactions, attitudes or relationships with as much authenticity as she does the American, Australian and British ethos. What makes the novel endearing is the high voltage resonance of the poignant tales of the protagonists woven around the theme of globalization, leaving a sea wave effect on the readers long after they have finished the read."--Padmini Devarajan, The Hindu

The Coffee Culture in the USA
It wasn't until I moved to the US that I started drinking coffee regularly and became what they call in the Netherlands a 'koffieleut', which translates literally into 'coffee socialite.'
